i really am low-key, i’ve just included all the information below to maximize the use of both of our time.

about me
i’m a 29 year old straight professional male who has been in the dc area for about 5 years, grew up in the suburbs of ohio, played soccer in college. i’m pretty low-key and can get along with most people. i work regular hours, go out on the weekends but am pretty quiet when i’m here, cook a few times a week (regular food). i generally don’t have friends over but occasionally (every 6 months or so, if that) will have friends (1 or 2) come to town and stay the weekend. during the week, i’m normally either here with my girlfriend or over at her place, on the weekends i’m in and out doing random stuff, and i have the occasional weekend trips. i’m pretty clean but can step my game up if needed.

about you
male or female non-smoker (at least indoors) is totally fine, i’ve lived with both and have had no problems (i’m actually good friends with one of my previous female roommates). if male, i would prefer you be straight as well. if female, i’m in a committed relationship so you don’t have to worry about any weirdness. if we get along well and end up hanging out, great, but not necessary. at the very least though, i would like to room with someone that’s good-natured, normal, trustworthy, and at least relatively clean. it’s cool if you like to have people over to pregame on the weekends or an occasional dinner party but i would prefer if the place wasn’t a revolving door and things aren’t too crazy past like 10-11 on the weekdays or 1-2 on the weekends. it’s great if you cook, but i would prefer if the apartment doesn’t start smelling like kim chi or whatever.

location
the building is right between columbia heights and adams morgan. 10 minute walk to columbia heights metro which is super convenient (i commute to work via metro) and the 42/43, h, and s bus lines are right outside the front door (i used to take the 42/43 to work before we moved offices). it’s in a good neighborhood, 5 minute walk to safeway, 10 minute walk to harris teeter, 10 minute walk to columbia heights (target, restaurants, bars), 5 minute walk to adams morgan (restaurants and bars), u street and dupont are really easy to get to. the neighborhood is actually really nice and safe, i’ve had no concerns walking back to my place at night (e.g., nobody just hanging out near the building late night). i really dig the location and there are actually very few locations in dc i would rather live, it’s really convenient and close to so many things.

apartment
2 bedroom, 1 bath. the room you’d be in is a good size, can fit a decent amount of furniture, and has a walk in closet (it will, of course, be empty when you move in). the apartment has hardwood floors throughout (which i appreciate), window air conditioning (which the room has) and radiated heat (which the room does not have – there’s a heater on the wall but it probably needs to be supplemented by a space heater in the winters). the living room is actually pretty big, there is a foyer with a coat closet, and a dining room area connected to the living room and kitchen. the kitchen is a bit small but i’ve had no problem cooking all sorts of different foods and it has a gas range, which is nice. there is no dishwasher but i tend to wash my dishes when i’m done with them if they’re taking up the sink or by the next day if it’s just a couple.

amenities
washers/dryers are on the first floor, $1.75/each washer load and each dryer load (i’m used to this so i have no problem with it). there’s an elevator and i have a collapsible cart that i use to transport (which you can use) so laundry is no big deal. there’s a gym in the building which is actually similar to a pretty decent hotel gym – i don’t work out anymore but it would definitely meet my needs if i start. there’s a locked bike rack room that has plenty of space and you can store a bike in. we have zone 1 street parking if you have a car (which i do). i won’t lie, street parking isn’t the best in dc if you’re getting back to the area late, especially on the weekends, but my roommate commutes to work in his car and hasn’t had issues with getting back at a reasonable time.

furniture
the burgundy leather couch, chair, and ottoman are mine, the stuff in the foyer, the living room tv and stand, the bright red couch and futon, and the kitchen table will be leaving. if you have furniture, great, we can figure out how to make it fit. if you don’t, that’s fine too. i actually don’t want to buy any more furniture, personally, since i have a ton of it and would be fine with the place as is but if you want to get some things, that’s totally cool. i have some dishes/silverware/cookware but not a lot so if you have some, great, if not, we can look into getting some (if you don’t cook, i wouldn’t expect you to get anything).

rent
the lease is currently month-to-month and at about $2500/mo, with a deposit, including all utilities – right now i pay $1300/mo. the only thing we’re on the hook for is internet and cable. i would expect to split the costs 50/50. i need internet but can get away with basic cable or without cable if you want. for the everyday household items (primarily paper towels, tp, dish soap, brita) i’m pretty cool about getting them as long as i’m not the only one doing so. if you want to get a maid service for cleaning every month or two, i’d be down with splitting that as well.

timing
so this is a bit tricky and is wholly dependent on when my current roommate can move out. he hasn’t been able to find anything that is available until august 15, though i’m not entirely sure if that’ll be the drop-dead date. i’ll update the ad as i know more but i’m guessing august 15 or september 1 (or anything in between) would work as the move-in date.

i’m available to show the apartment in the evenings and generally on the weekends so let me know if you’re interested in seeing the place!

kevin
